Change of Seasons

Phoenixville, PA--I've always known what the next step would be. What I did not know was when and where. I even knew when it happened it would be very quick. To my surprise it brought me right back home to PA.

Some things have changed a lot and other things are very much the same. I would say there is just enough of both to help with the transition and to keep things interesting.

I've moved back to PA the end of August to teach photography at Valley Forge Christian College. They just added a Digital Media major a few years back. It has been a challenge, mostly taking things that I have done for years and learning how to communicate it in a way that others can understand and duplicate. I love teaching but I also have a greater appreciation for the teachers I have had in the past...for all the work that they put into their classes!

Now just in case you are thinking how am I going to stay still. The answer is I won't be. I am already planning two trips this summer. One back to Africa with my church, the other will hopefully be to Asia with OneHope. I've seen too much not to want more. God has put so much on my heart that I have to keep going and making a difference wherever I can.

Something that I am looking to grow is the business aspect of my photography. And so as soon as the semester winds down in a few weeks I will be adding to my website, working on marketing and taking a more active role in that area. I have a lot of ideas for books and prints and more... The nature of this blog may change to be more photo-oriented but I think I will always chronicle my travels. I like the new season that I am in and I can't wait to see it completely unfold.

Hi Kim,

This is so wonderful to hear. Photography was a huge hobby for me when I was in high school and college. Back then, we were developing film in dark rooms. I got away from it after college when my Olympus OM-10 broke. I haven't had a decent camera since, until recently when I purchased a Nikon D5000. I am literally teaching myself about digital photography and am now looking to take some classes.

I just bought a new lens yesterday that I'm so excited about: a 55-300mm zoom. I traded in my 55-200mm. Got a good deal on it too.

Anyway, I wish I could become a professional, full-time photographer. You are so blessed to be doing what you are passionate about. I long to do just that once again. I consider myself a writer and a photographer and hope to one day meld the two professionally. Thankfully, I've been a professional writer for the past 25 years, although my career has been temporarily derailed due to the economy. But I'm praying this won't last too much longer. I crave creativity, and my current job doesn't offer any.

Anyway, visit my devotional writing blog, where I write and combine my photography, and visit my photography blog when you get a chance.

This is pretty cool Judy. I have a lot of resources that can help you down this road. Let's connect and see where it leads...maybe a photography group or a small group with a photo emphasis. I have a lot of ideas that I would love to bounce off someone who understands being creative. One project in particular I think would be a great collaboration, if you are interested.

Hi Kim,

Yeah let me know what you're thinking. Maybe we can visit Valley Forge Park before it gets too cold. I went there once in September and once in October. Got great shots of the deer and the fall foliage. Or, maybe we can go someplace else. Just let me know.

Blessings,
Judy
